Custom Residence Addition, Vail, Colorado

Custom Residence Addition, Vail, Colorado

Services: Structural Design, Construction Document Preparation, Field Observations & Construction Administration
Square Feet: 1200 sq. ft. addition to existing 3700 sq. ft.
Completion: 2010
Structural Systems:  Light-frame wood construction with hot-rolled steel beams and custom steel roof brackets and connections
Architect: Coburn Development
General Contractor:  Nick Mayers

Description:
The steep grading conditions at this site dictated significant foundation wall heights and construction shoring challenges.  The addition ties into an existing residence perched on the hill overlooking the Vail Valley, and walks out onto the planted roof of the new custom guesthouse that bridges down to the street level.  Site conditions, matching existing construction, and accommodating the architectural design made this project complex and enjoyable from a structural perspective.
